Friends of the Indian River County Library
The Friends' Purpose
The Friends of Indian River County Library is a non-profit, tax-deductable organization that provides financial support to maintain a vital and modern library system, linking our community to the wonders of the world.
Their contributions include volunteering their time to help in the library itself manning desks and assisting patrons or keeping our collections current and orderly. They also run the Used Book Depot which sells a wide variety of books and the Library Friends Gift Shop which sells affordable gifts for all occasions. Both of these locations donate all proceeds to the benefit of the library.
How are funds raised?
The Friends donate approximately $80,000 to the library each year. The money is raised through membership dues and proceeds from the Used Book Depot and the Library Friends Gift Shop. The Friends also own and collect money from the copy machines in the library.
What happens to your donations?
Donations are used to purchase equipment and supplies not covered in the library’s budget. These include services such as book leasing and eBooks. It’s also used to support various children’s and adult programs.
Volunteer your time!
The Friends are looking for volunteers to assist in the Used Book Depot and the Library Friends Gift Shop. Volunteer applications are available at the Used Book Depot and the Library Friends Gift Shop.
